River Crake this afternoon.

Went for a short paddle down the bottom end of Coniston and then down the Crake to the Nibthwaite Bridge. Put in at my usual spot just past Brown Howe, too many tourists about so got a spurt on and headed into the quieter Southern end and the River Crake.

I hadn't been down the Crake since before the Cumbrian Floods of Nov 09.

Here's a picture from October 09

The same scene today note the boat house has been swept away.

The "Boathouse" of Octopus Lagoon hadn't floated away.

I found the swept away boathouse about quarter of mile down stream.

Further down the first road bridge that crosses the Crake, showed how high the water got on that night in November. The road is still closed today.

Then I paddled back up, had a play for half an hour on the little chutes before heading home.

quite a shocking picture, all this time later, of damage done by flooding.  Your outing a bonny review.

Re: River Crake this afternoon.

Nice. What's the lower Crake like for a canoe?
I kayaked it 26 or 27 years ago and one boat got stuck in Bobbin Mill falls, we had to smash the nose off with a rock to free it. Would it be too narrow for canoes in normal water levels?

Cheers, Pieface.

Was fully expecting to see animals 2x2 trouping out of the "ark" boathouse. Sure the owners name isn't Noah.
